Together, they embark on a journey to restore the balance of the world and uncover the truth behind Lloyd's actions. Emil meets Marta Lualdi, a girl who has a powerful monster named Ratatosk sealed in her forehead. The story follows Emil Castagnier, a young boy who witnesses his parents being killed by Lloyd Irving, the hero of the previous game. The game takes place two years after the events of Tales of Symphonia, when the worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe'alla were merged into one. It is a spin-off of the 2004 game Tales of Symphonia, which was released for the Nintendo GameCube and later ported to other platforms.
